Dallas County Pocket Prairie Program

Volunteers dig an area to plant native plants for a Pocket Prairie Demonstration Garden at the Dallas County Fairgrounds.

Applications are open for the Dallas County Pocket Prairie Program!
This guided, community-based initiative is designed to help you succeed in growing a Native Pocket Prairie in your own yard.
Participants can attend an optional spring lecture series to learn the basics of native plants and prairie ecology.
Selected applicants then take part in a hands-on fall workshop focused on site preparation, followed by guided planting in the spring.
Throughout the process, you’ll receive step-by-step coaching, practical resources, and ongoing support from local Master Gardeners to help your prairie establish and thrive.
Open to Dallas County homeowners, the program has a reduced cost of $150 and includes plants, training, soil amendements, signage and more.
Full details and Application are available on our website: https://www.extension.iastate.edu/dallas/hort.
Applicants will be notified of selection status by July 1, 2026.
This program is offered in partnership with Dallas County Conservation and supported by grants from the Dallas County Foundation and Bock Family Foundation Inc.
