Dallas County 4-H Senior Awards
Adel – Emma Foley, Sam Greiman and Bailey Renner were awarded the first Dallas County 4-H Senior Awards. They received their recognition during the Dallas County Fair Board Sponsorship Dinner on July 12, 2023.
“The 4-H Senior Award is a joint effort between the Dallas County 4-H Foundation and the Dallas County 4-H Youth Committee.
The goal of the award is to provide assistance to senior members in creating their best future. We know some youth go to college, some go to trade school, some explore the world of work. These awards are to assist youth in designing their future,” Ella Moss Gross, Foundation President.
“4-H has changed my perspective on what I’m capable of, taught me how to be a leader, and has given me many new experiences and opportunities to learn.” said Foley. Emma joined 4-H as a 4th grader. She participated in sewing, home improvement, and food and nutrition with her 4-H club, Sugar Grove Sunshine. Her skills gained through 4-H helped prepare her to chair and participate on many committees including Key Club and Dallas County Youth Council. She plans to use the award to pay for college expenses.
“I have become a better public speaker, a better leader, and a better person through 4-H.” said Greiman. In seventh grade, Sam typically shielded away from speaking in front of large groups, now he considers public speaking one of his greatest strengths. This started with a communications project that took him to the state fair, where he received a gold award for his project. He has continued to grow as a leader and mentor as 4-H and FFA president. As club and FFA president, he is calm and relatable, like his 4-H leader. Sam plans to attend Iowa State University to pursue a degree in Agricultural Business.
4-H allowed Bailey to gain leadership skills by fulfilling roles as club president, historian, and treasurer over the years. Being club treasurer has taught her how to manage and save money. She has baked pies for the 4-H pie auction every year to help make money for Dallas County 4- H and her club. She plans to use these skills to invest in her own culinary business in the future.
“The joint award effort between the Dallas County 4-H Youth Committee and the Dallas County 4-H Foundation allows us to recognize the hard work and dedication of local members who have used their 4-H skills and experiences to ‘make the best better’,” said Emily Wynn, Youth 2
Committee Chairperson. “We also are thankful for the many who support the 4-H Food Stand and Silent Auction conducted annually during the Dallas County Fair. Funds from these efforts support our senior awards as well as trips and educational experiences for our members and volunteers”.
