City of Adel Coronavirus Update (November 16 2020)
November 16, 2020 Update
Governor’s Latest COVID-19 Proclamation
On November 16, Governor Reynolds issued a new COVID-19 Proclamation that continues the State Public Health Emergency Declaration.
- The proclamation imposes a number of additional public health measures in effect through December 10.
The City of Adel encourages all vulnerable residents, including those with preexisting medical conditions and those older than 65, to limit their activities outside of their homes, to minimize their in-person visits to businesses, and to limit their participation in gatherings of any size or purpose.
In addition, the City strongly recommends the usage of masks in accordance with guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health and the CDC. Data shows that masks protect both you and those around you from contracting the virus.
Please help slow the spread of COVID-19 to allow our healthcare system to manage the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
We encourage you to review the governor’s proclamation in detail, which includes the following measures:
- Masks are required when individuals are within six feet of one another for 15 minutes or longer with certain exceptions.
- For social, community, business, and leisure gatherings, no more than 15 people indoors and 30 people outdoors with certain exceptions.
- Nonessential/elective surgeries must be reduced.
- Youth and adult group sports and recreational gatherings are prohibited except for high school, college, and professional sports.
- If you are signed up for a City recreation program, you may receive further communications as City staff completes its review of the proclamation. The City’s Parks & Recreation Facebook page may also be updated.
- Restaurants and bars must end in-person services at 10:00 p.m. and have additional restrictions.
- Group fitness activities are prohibited.
- Closer or prolonged contact establishments like bowling alleys have additional restrictions.
- Please note that the governor may revise these restrictions at any time.
Adel City Hall will remain in “Phase One” (i.e., Appointments Only) of its Reopening Guidelines until further notice.
For more COVID-19 information and resources, please visit the City’s Coronavirus Information webpage.
In addition, please visit the Adel Public Library’s website for the latest updates on the library’s reopening plan.

Adel Community Archery Center Reopened
The Adel Archery Range at 1505 Old Portland Road (east of Fullers Petroleum) has re-opened after being refurbished by the City of Adel, David and Kent McAdon, and Scouts and leaders from Pack and Troop 152, just in time for the bow-hunting season!
A permit at a nominal fee is required to use the range and can be obtained at the Adel City Hall.
Each permit holder will receive a copy of the rules for the range and the proper archery shooting procedures to allow for a safe and enjoyable experience for all users.
No broadhead arrows are allowed but, otherwise, the targets are available for all skill levels and ages for siting, practice, or shooting.
Archery is a healthy activity that promotes balance, mental focus, and building upper body strength. The social interactions are important, too; it’s a fun sport that can be recreational or competitive.

Drive along Hwy 6 and see the lights on Tuesday going forward. Or come over on Tuesday and walk the trail bridge to experience our beauty of the lights.
With the lighting of the RRVT bridge, we’ve decided to incorporate some new traditions.
KCL Engineering has been testing out different lights to coincide with different holidays and national non-profit colors that we can change every month.
We appreciate all of their hard work and are excited for our community to be able to enjoy the lights once they are installed!

Invite – Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Outside Church
Panther Creek Church of the Brethren Parking Lot Church
Covid-19 has presented churches with a new set of challenges in 2020.
Gathering as we have in the past presents a physical health risk to our members, yet not gathering presents spiritual, emotional, and social health risks.
Panther Creek Church of the Brethren is located in a beautiful country setting so the idea of a Parking Lot Church came into being. Participants drive down the church lane and are greeted by a member of the church.
Vehicles can then back in under large shade trees facing the front of the building. An FM transmitter allows the service to be broadcast to an FM station in each car radio so all can remain in their cars and stay socially distant.
Worship services intend to come as close as possible to “normal” with prelude music, joys and concerns, prayer, scripture and sermon. It has been a great experience to share in worship and to see each other again even if from a distance.
An offering can be left in a box as cars turn down the driveway to leave the church. Most of the time the weather has cooperated to provide a unique and worshipful experience for those in attendance.
Panther Creek Church of the Brethren would like to issue an open invitation to visit and participate in a nature filled worship service at 10:30 on Sunday mornings.
The Panther Creek Church of the Brethren is located at 24529 J Avenue,
½ mile south of the intersection of P-58, Hwy. 44 and J Avenue (8 miles northwest of Adel,
8 miles west of Dallas Center, 10 miles south of Perry, 11 miles northeast of Redfield).
