Veteran’s Flag Marker for Nile Kinnick Jr
Adel American Legion Post 464:
Did you know that there is a veteran’s flag marker for Nile Kinnick Jr. near the plaque for Kinnick Feller Park?
Take a look the next time you are near the marker at 9th Street on the east end of the parking lot near the football field.
The landscaping is courtesy of the ADM Alumni Association, honoring two hometown heroes. See ADM Alumni Honored Military.
Even though Nile is not buried in Adel, he is Adel’s native son and one of our fallen veterans that will not be forgotten. More Nile Kinnick Aricles

Travis Parsons Memorial Dog Park Fundraiser
Travis Parsons Memorial Dog Park
Fundraiser – AHeinz57 Pet Rescue
There has been such an outpouring of love and a need for many of us to do something special in memory of Travis, that many of us are pitching in to create a large Dogs Playing for Life fenced area.
It will be a specific area to continue Travis‘s work with the dog playgroups.
These play groups give dogs a much needed break from the isolation of individual kennels they are living in. It also helps us learn their play styles and and more importantly, they teach each other how to behave around each other.
Dogs can learn things from each other that we just can’t teach them. This area will also have a few shaded areas with picnic tables and benches where volunteers can I hang out together and dog reunions can be held.
The entire area will be dedicated to Travis Parsons. We all think he would love this. Please Donate if you would like to be a part of it.

City of Adel Coronavirus Update (November 16 2020)
November 16, 2020 Update
Governor’s Latest COVID-19 Proclamation
On November 16, Governor Reynolds issued a new COVID-19 Proclamation that continues the State Public Health Emergency Declaration.
- The proclamation imposes a number of additional public health measures in effect through December 10.
The City of Adel encourages all vulnerable residents, including those with preexisting medical conditions and those older than 65, to limit their activities outside of their homes, to minimize their in-person visits to businesses, and to limit their participation in gatherings of any size or purpose.
In addition, the City strongly recommends the usage of masks in accordance with guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health and the CDC. Data shows that masks protect both you and those around you from contracting the virus.
Please help slow the spread of COVID-19 to allow our healthcare system to manage the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
We encourage you to review the governor’s proclamation in detail, which includes the following measures:
- Masks are required when individuals are within six feet of one another for 15 minutes or longer with certain exceptions.
- For social, community, business, and leisure gatherings, no more than 15 people indoors and 30 people outdoors with certain exceptions.
- Nonessential/elective surgeries must be reduced.
- Youth and adult group sports and recreational gatherings are prohibited except for high school, college, and professional sports.
- If you are signed up for a City recreation program, you may receive further communications as City staff completes its review of the proclamation. The City’s Parks & Recreation Facebook page may also be updated.
- Restaurants and bars must end in-person services at 10:00 p.m. and have additional restrictions.
- Group fitness activities are prohibited.
- Closer or prolonged contact establishments like bowling alleys have additional restrictions.
- Please note that the governor may revise these restrictions at any time.
Adel City Hall will remain in “Phase One” (i.e., Appointments Only) of its Reopening Guidelines until further notice.
For more COVID-19 information and resources, please visit the City’s Coronavirus Information webpage.
In addition, please visit the Adel Public Library’s website for the latest updates on the library’s reopening plan.

Adel Community Archery Center Reopened
The Adel Archery Range at 1505 Old Portland Road (east of Fullers Petroleum) has re-opened after being refurbished by the City of Adel, David and Kent McAdon, and Scouts and leaders from Pack and Troop 152, just in time for the bow-hunting season!
A permit at a nominal fee is required to use the range and can be obtained at the Adel City Hall.
Each permit holder will receive a copy of the rules for the range and the proper archery shooting procedures to allow for a safe and enjoyable experience for all users.
No broadhead arrows are allowed but, otherwise, the targets are available for all skill levels and ages for siting, practice, or shooting.
Archery is a healthy activity that promotes balance, mental focus, and building upper body strength. The social interactions are important, too; it’s a fun sport that can be recreational or competitive.
