Brick Street Repair NewsWork on Adel’s Historic Brick Streets is resuming this week.

The intersections at 9th and Prairie will be be closed to allow crews to lay brick on 9th street. Crews will remove the asphalt that was laid for winter.

Wells Fargo Bank Donates Early Literacy Station to Adel Public Library

Brick Street Project Restarts!

Laying Bricks Adel IowaAs the weather improves, brick layers are expected this week to work on  the sidewalk and let down areas as weather permits. The streets will follow once a timetable has been established.

City staff will be meeting the contractor and engineer to discuss the final details of signage, painting, benches and clean up.

Adel Dog Wins Best of Breed Honor at Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Adel Hero Nile Kinnick named Big Ten Icon

Iowa’s only Heisman Trophy winner and Adel hero Nile Kinnick has been named Big Ten Icon No. 7, Big Ten officials announced Tuesday, January 18th.

The native of Adel, Iowa stood just 5-foot-8 and weighed 170 pounds, but did it all for the Hawkeyes, serving as a halfback, defensive back and punter on the football team, and was the basketball team’s second-leading scorer as a sophomore.

Adel Attorney Randy Hefner Appointed District Judge

Newly appointed District Judge Randy V. Hefner of Adel will take his oath of office at 3 pm January 27th, at the Dallas County Courthouse.

Mr. Hefner was a lawyer at the Hefner and Bergkamp Law Firm when Governor Chet Culver appointed him to the bench in December 2010.

Randy Hefner will serve as a judge in Judicial District 5A, which is part of a 16-county region in south-central Iowa.

John D. Gomke Charity Donates AED to ADM Schools

On December 13th and 14th Jessica Gomke of the John D. Gomke Charity donated two Zoll AED Defibrillators to the ADM Elementary and DeSoto Intermediate schools.

Faculty at the school were shown how to properly use the Zoll AED Defibrillators on children and adults in a presentation given by Dallas County EMT Mike Thomason.

The Zoll AED was created to be simple to use. With voice commands and lighted prompts, it walks responders through each step of CPR and only allows shock to be administered if needed. […] Continue Reading…

Terry Visits Parks in Adel, Iowa

I love Iowa summers. Each year I dust off my picnic basket, grab my trusty plaid blanket, and head out in search of the perfect shade tree.

Adel is home to nice parks. I started the season at Island Park for a little fishing. I’m not very good at it but I’m very good at relaxing. I checked out the historic bridge that spans over the dam, it’s a view worth seeing!

I also spent an evening at the Kinnick-Feller Park and Adel Municipal Pool. The park is a fun place to plan a get together with a few gazebos and lots of equipment for the kids.

There is a waterway entry point for the brave interested canoeing or kayaking. Personally, I prefer the chlorinated waters of the pool, it’s a great way
