Journalist to Travel Route 6 Through Adel
Travel journalist, Marie Yolen-Cohen is taking a six week journey across Route 6 this summer.

Final Brick Street Project Update
Chad Bird, Adel’s City Administrator has posted a public letter on the Brick Street Project.
As the project is wrapping up he addresses the final punch list and any concerns that might exist before the project is wrapped up.
The project has a four year maintenance bond that he discusses and along with the traffic and controls. Read the full letter on the Brick Street Updates page.
Sweet Corn Festival Named in 23 Best Events (Updated)
The Des Moines Register has listed the Adel Sweet Corn Festival as one of it’s “23 best events in central Iowa this summer“.
The Adel Sweet Corn Festival is Aug. 12-13. www.adelpartners.org.

“Nothing says “summer in Iowa” like fresh sweet corn, and the community of Adel goes all out to celebrate this golden treat. Gather at the parking lot at 10th and Court at 5 p.m. Aug. 12 to help shuck the corn. Watch the parade from 9:30-11 a.m. Aug. 13, and then stand in line for free sweet corn starting at 10 a.m. until it’s gone.”
Remembering Our Fallen Photo Exhibit visits Adel
The “Remembering Our Fallen” photo exhibit created by Evonne and Bill Williams will be making a stop in Adel, Iowa.

Adel City Hall and McClure Engineering Company announced that the 2010 Brick Street Project in the Community has received the American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa (ACEC) Grand Place Award for first place in the transportation category.

It was a natural choice for Stan Olson and his family to open the Penoach Winery, Vineyard and Nursery in Adel, where they have lived for 30 years.
The family owned winery was named after the original name for the area of Adel which means “Beautiful Place” or “Pleasant Valley.” The winery is known for its rustic character and fun, enjoyable atmosphere.

John D. Gomke Charity
On December 3rd, 2009 John Donald Gomke was born. He passed away on January 6th, 2010 at 33 days.
His parents, Steve and Jessica Gomke, have set up the John D. Gomke Charity in his honor to educate parents and the community about Small Child and Infant death.
This month we spoke with Jessica about the accomplishments of the charity and upcoming events.
In December, the John D. Gomke Charity donated two AED machines to the ADM
Hy-Vac in Adel Now VALO BioMedia North America

As of March 1st Adel’s well known agricultural company Hy-Vac has changed it’s name to VALO BioMedia North America, the SPF and Clean Egg Company.
The name change reflects new management within the Dallas County company.
President Tim Newberry states the name change is superficial, that VALO will continue to
Adel Brick Streets Open Monday (Updated)
The intersection of Prairie and 9th Street will be open for traffic Monday the 21st.
Update: The barricades have been moved and the Streets are drivable as of Friday evening the 18th.
Crews are concentrating on the final repairs in the following weeks.

Early Literacy Station Dedication Photos
Members of the Adel Library Board, Wells Fargo, city leaders and local children were on hand Monday morning for the dedication of the Early Literacy Station (ELS). The ELS was donated to the Adel Public Library by a grant form the Wells Fargo Foundation.

Work Resumes on 9th St.
Work on Adel’s Historic Brick Streets is resuming this week.
The intersections at 9th and Prairie will be be closed to allow crews to lay brick on 9th street. Crews will remove the asphalt that was laid for winter.
