Van and Bonnie – A Thank You To the Volunteers and Community
All,
On behalf of the City, thank you to all those who helped make today’s Van & Bonnie Show broadcast from Adel a huge success.
There was quite a display of Adel history, personalities and pride today and much work went into the fantastic showcase for our community.
Thanks to the
Special Olympics Quad-athon – June 18th

Don’t miss the Quad-athon this Saturday, June 18 at the Dallas County Fairgrounds.
Teams will compete for the rights to a traveling trophy while raising money for Special Olympics Iowa athletes.
Teams of 10 (with two alternates) are encouraged to register before the event or the day of the competition.
Van Harden’s Birthday Party – You’re all invited !!! (Update)

UPDATED:The Van & Bonnie show has been moved from the Courthouse Square to the High School commons area.
Van Harden’s birthday is Friday, June 17 – so his hometown of Adel is throwing a party in his honor.
And, Van & Bonnie will broadcast their morning show on WHO Radio live from the courthouse square (now at the HighSchool commons) in Adel.
Come out and join the fun Friday from 4:59 – 9:00 AM.
Physical Sports Clinic

A physical sports clinic will be held at the Adel Mercy Medical Clinic in Adel on Tuesday, June 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Cost is $15 with all proceeds going to ADM Athletic Dept.
The clinic will be held at the Adel Mercy Medical Clinic.
Van’s Birthday Bash – Friday, 17th on Main Street
Van Harden, who grew up in Adel, will bring his morning show of “Van & Bonnie” on WHO radio to the Adel courthouse on June 17th.
Van & Bonnie will be in Adel broadcasting from 4:59 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Main Street from 8th to 9th will be blocked off for this event.
Everyone is invited to stop by, watch the show, and wish Van a Happy Birthday!.
A Brick Street Classic Car Show, Thank you!

A very special thank you to all who came out and supported the 7th Annual Brick Street Classic Car Show.
This show continues to demonstrate the love affair we have with our cars.
The Brick Street Classic Car Show is very unique in that it brings together such a special group of spectators and car enthusiast a like.
Whether you like to work on cars or just stroll and admire rides of a bygone era, this show has something for everyone.

John D. Gomke Charity Golf Tournament

Two flights during each tee time, with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prizes in each flight.
Tee times are 7am & 1pm.

Journalist to Travel Route 6 Through Adel
Travel journalist, Marie Yolen-Cohen is taking a six week journey across Route 6 this summer.
She will be driving, blogging and collecting information for a Route 6 Travel Guidebook. You can track her progress on her Blog, StayOnRoute6.blogspot.com

Final Brick Street Project Update
Chad Bird, Adel’s City Administrator has posted a public letter on the Brick Street Project.
As the project is wrapping up he addresses the final punch list and any concerns that might exist before the project is wrapped up.
The project has a four year maintenance bond that he discusses and along with the traffic and controls. Read the full letter on the Brick Street Updates page.
Sweet Corn Festival Named in 23 Best Events (Updated)
The Des Moines Register has listed the Adel Sweet Corn Festival as one of it’s “23 best events in central Iowa this summer“.
The Adel Sweet Corn Festival is Aug. 12-13. www.adelpartners.org.

“Nothing says “summer in Iowa” like fresh sweet corn, and the community of Adel goes all out to celebrate this golden treat. Gather at the parking lot at 10th and Court at 5 p.m. Aug. 12 to help shuck the corn. Watch the parade from 9:30-11 a.m. Aug. 13, and then stand in line for free sweet corn starting at 10 a.m. until it’s gone.”
Remembering Our Fallen Photo Exhibit visits Adel
The “Remembering Our Fallen” photo exhibit created by Evonne and Bill Williams will be making a stop in Adel, Iowa.
The exhibit, owned by Strategic Air & Space Museum, includes the photos of The Fallen from Nebraska and western Iowa traveling a week at a time to 44 communities through
Adel Brick Street Rehabilitation Project Receives Award
Adel City Hall and McClure Engineering Company announced that the 2010 Brick Street Project in the Community has received the American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa (ACEC) Grand Place Award for first place in the transportation category.

It was a natural choice for Stan Olson and his family to open the Penoach Winery, Vineyard and Nursery in Adel, where they have lived for 30 years.
The family owned winery was named after the original name for the area of Adel which means “Beautiful Place” or “Pleasant Valley.” The winery is known for its rustic character and fun, enjoyable atmosphere.

ISU Double Judged Open Horse Show in Adel, Iowa
Come out to the Dallas County Fair Grounds for the ISU Open Horse Show April 30th!
This double judged event will start with registration at 8am. Spectators will see presentations and awards from 9am-5pm.
