ADM Alumni Association Old High School Virtual Tour Added

One of the most requested additions to the ADM Alumni site has been photos of the High School.
During the Sweetcorn Festival this last weekend they held a Tour of the Old High School and have added 14 photos to the their site on the “Hallowed Halls” page.
The Alumni Association will be adding photos of the DeSoto and Minburn buildings when possible.

Historic Adel Pool to Close August 17th
On Friday, August 17th the historic Adel Pool, located next to Kinnick-Feller Park on 9th St. will close it’s doors on a glorious history.
Built in 1935 by the WPA, (Works Progress Administration) as a community betterment project, it served Adel and the neighboring communities for 72 years. Surviving the Depression, flooding, drought, swimming lessons, and 72 years of children having fun.
But the children of Adel won’t be without a pool, the ground has already been broken on a new Aquatic Center located at the corner of Meadow Road and South 15th Street.
If you’d like a chance to take one last dip in the old pool, this is it.

New Construction for Adel Family Dentistry, P.C.
As you drive west on Greene Street you’ve probably noticed the new construction taking place.
Adel Family Dentistry, P.C. is building a new dental office next to their current location to better serve their patients. The new office will open later this year.
You can follow the progress online at the Adel Family Dentistry site, or on their Facebook page.
In addition to the new site they’ve expanded their hours to better serve their patients schedules.
New Hours:
Appointments are available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., four days each week.
- Open from Monday-Thursday one week, and Tuesday-Friday the alternating week, except during holiday weeks.
- Every other Monday 7 a.m to 5 p.m.
- Tues-Thursday 7 a.m to 5 p.m.
- Every other Friday 7 a.m to 5 p.m.

The City of Adel held a Ground Breaking Ceremony for the City’s New Family Recreation Aquatic Center Friday morning on the July 27th.
Over 20 children participated in the ceremony with toy buckets and shovels that the City provided.
The Aquatic Center is planned to open in 2013.

Adel Fareway Interview

ADM’s Alec Rash Picked in 2nd Round MLB Draft
Pitcher Alec Rash of ADM was picked in the second round of the Major League Baseball first-year payer draft by the Philadelphia Phillies June 5th.
At 6 ft. 5, the 200 lb. Alec threw at an impressive 95 mph during the National Pre-Draft Showcase.
Whether he goes to college or the Phillies is a decision he still has to make.

ADM Alumni Honors Adel Military Killed in Action

The Alumni KIA Memorial consists of a 4 foot by 3 foot bronze and alumicolor plaque designed by Jim Peters. The memorial is displayed in the ADM High School commons.
There are eleven, 2 foot by 3 foot displays composed of photos, letters, and tributes representing each of the ADM graduates.
The Alumni Association has recently added digital copies of the plaques to their Honored Military page.

ADM in Top 25 Schools in Iowa – 2012 Iowa AP index
The ADM High School has received confirmation from the University of Iowa, Belin and Blank Center that ADM High School is ranked in the Top 25 schools in Iowa for the 2012 Iowa AP Index.
ADM ranked at 14 out of 199 schools.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Honors 4 Adel Firefighters
Liberty Mutual Insurance awarded Four Adel Fire Fighters the Community Service Firemark Award at the March 13th, Adel City Council meeting.
The Heroic Firemark Award recognizes local firefighters who assisted in a life-saving effort without regard for their own personal safety.
The awards were presented by Mayor Jim Peters to Tim Morland, Tim Brickman, Jason Renner and Brad Kinzie for their actions August 10th, 2010.
Fire was shooting from the roof of Larry & Sandy Schmitz’s home as they slept. The fire fighters were forced to break into the home and rush the Schmitz’s outside to safety. Seconds later, the entire roof of the home collapsed in flames… […] Continue Reading…
