Let Home Care Services Do The Driving This Winter!
Courtesy of HomeCare Services, Inc.:
Winter is finally upon us and we Iowans know how some Iowa winters can be –blowing, drifting, batteries that don’t start, starters that go out, etc.
Although we certainly need the moisture, and didn’t really get the full effects of our usual winter last year, are you ready for winter driving in Iowa this year?
Is your vehicle dependable? When your car is in the repair shop, or your car pool driver isn’t going to work, do you have a backup plan? Or you simply don’t want to drive that day?
Please remember that our drivers are typically out on the road, although we, too, don’t want them to drive you or themselves if it is treacherous!
We can take you back and forth to work, shopping, lunch with friends, doctors’ appointments, etc. Our HIRTA public transportation buses can also transport wheelchairs and can provide door to door service.
Buses and vans run Monday through Friday anywhere inside Dallas County and to other counties when you make the call.
Office hours are 7 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and can run earlier and later.

Adel Family Dentistry New Office w/Pictures
Dr. Kelly Sedars is pleased to announce the opening of Adel Family Dentistry’s new home at 1202 Greene Street.
The beautiful new facility is conveniently located next door to their previous location.
Adel Family Dentistry is open from 7 AM to 5 PM weekdays and provides comprehensive general dental care.
Despite the challenging economic times, Dr. Sedars has invested in a new, 3400 square foot state-of-the-art facility for his patients.
He believes that his patients deserve the very best in technology and equipment right here in Adel.
The new dental office has incorporated many advancements including all digital x-rays, which reduce radiation exposure by 90% over traditional x-rays.
He has also installed computers in each treatment room so that his patients can view their x-rays or photos from an intraoral camera on a large screen.
This technology makes it easier for patients to understand concerns that were difficult to visualize with just a small mirror. And as an added bonus, when the screens are not being used for viewing teeth, they double as televisions so his patients can now enjoy TV or movies during their visits.
All the new dental equipment was made in the USA by the A-Dec corporation in Newburg, Oregon.
“We are incredibly excited about our new office,” said Erin Sedars, Office Manager at Adel Family Dentistry, “Our new office demonstrates our commitment to providing our community with the highest level of care and comfort.
We wanted to create an environment that was warm and inviting so that our patients will look forward to their dental visits. When we designed our office, our goal was to make it seem more like a cozy home than a cold medical facility.
We know that for some patients, visiting the dentist can create anxiety. We wanted to eliminate that fear as much as possible.
From comfortable seating in front of the fireplace to the beautiful, custom art-work, we wanted each detail to communicate our pride in our facility and our excellent services.”
Over the years, the Sedars have listened to the suggestions that their patients have made regarding the dental office and they tried to incorporate as many of those suggestions as possible.
“We now have five fully-equiped dental treatment rooms and have room to accommodate for future growth. This will allow us to have even more efficient scheduling to help busy families,” said Dr. Sedars, “It will also help us to better serve emergency patients without inconveniencing patients who have scheduled appointments.”
Dr. Sedars has also expanded his sterilization facilities to include a dedicated room featuring a 12 foot A-Dec Sterilization Center. This high tech space utilizes many hands-free features to protect staff members and ensures patients the highest level of sterilization and infection control.
The new facility also has dramatically expanded its parking area and eliminated stairs to assist those with mobility problems. “In every aspect of our planning, our patients comfort was our top priority.”
Dr. Sedars is celebrating his 10th year as owner of Adel Family Dentistry. He is happy to provide care to patients of all ages from babies to the elderly. He feels it is an important service to his patients to be able to skillfully provide nearly every aspect of general dentistry, including preventive care, periodontal treatment, pediatric dentistry, root canals, extractions, and cosmetic services like whitening, crowns, and veneers.
By providing comprehensive care in Adel, he is able to save his patients both time and expense as opposed to having them seen by specialists in Des Moines. Dr. Sedars is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and is member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association. He attends many continuing education seminars to stay abreast of the latest techniques and technologies.
If you are looking for an exceptional dental practice in Adel, you can call Erin at 515-993-3701 to make a reservation for your initial consultation. Additional photos of the new office can be viewed online at www.adelfamilydentistry.com or on Adel Family Dentistry’s Facebook page.
Dr. Sedars also invites you to visit his office during Adel’s Holiday Open House on December 7th to indulge your sweet tooth.

Ralph Moisa II – White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow Interview
Reprint of Article from August Newsletter:
The 13th Annual White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow is the only pow wow of it’s type in the country and it’s happening near Adel, Iowa!
We spoke with event founder, Ralph Moisa II, about this one-in-a-million gathering.
Ralph and Carol Moisa, along with dozens of volunteers and sponsors, have created a positive reason to unite central Iowa communities.
Their cause is valiant – “to break down the walls of misunderstanding and bring together individuals of different races” – as inspired by their late son Ralph “White Eagle” Moisa III.
As a young man, Ralph experienced bigotry because of the color of his skin.
He remembers a time when he was not allowed to sit at the counter in restaurants.
This hatred could have overtaken him, but Ralph focused his energies towards raising his family.
He saw his son face similar racism as someone shot out the windows of their car and with each injustice, saw his son stand tall in his Indian pride.
In 1995 White Eagle passed away while trying to save a winged friend caught in a power line. The short story “Spirit Journey” celebrates Ralph’s life as told by his father.
In his son’s belongings Ralph found journals outlining a life he was unaware existed. They learned that their son had been visiting local schools to teach the children of the 7th Generation about his culture.
He wrote that by respecting his individual heritage and learning about the traditions of others, he would gain a greater appreciation for all and begin to mend the Sacred Hoop.
As Native Americans, the 7th Generation represents a significant turning point. Ralph explains that today’s children live in a brave new world, answering questions their fathers could not imagine; making choices they could not understand.
The struggles they face in turn create new struggles for their parents who feel ill equipped to prepare their children for what lies ahead. This applies to families everywhere, of every creed and nationality.
The 7th Generation’s significance and worldwide impact are the reasons to mend the Sacred Hoop.
The ever-expanding network of family, community, country and the world is joined together to form the Sacred Hoop. But the ties that bind us fray with each intolerant act, tarnishing the spirit of connectivity each race shares.
White Eagle dreamt of a gathering not only to repair these bonds, but also to strengthen them.
In 2000, Ralph and Carol organized the first Multicultural Pow Wow at Jester Park. As the event grew to more than 12,000 spectators, the 501c organization had to relocate to larger camping facilities at Hawkeye Antique Acres near Waukee.
This three-day event is fun and family oriented uniting costumes, pageantry, music, dance, performance art, and sports with the spirit of community.
Pow wow participants will witness first hand the spiritual power of the Grand Entry and Native American dances performed daily.
Additional cultural displays will take place throughout the weekend by Los Ninos del Tepayac- featuring Mexican Folklore Dancing, Aloha Wind, Mirage Dance, HAPA Filipino Dance, Salsa Des Moines, music by Our Heritage Family Band, Malaika and her Mystic Angels, and the Japan America Society of Iowa featuring Taiko Drum and more!
See the full schedule of events online.
On Sunday a giveaway will take place at approximately 3:00 p.m. This is an important Native American tradition that honors those who have joined together during the pow wow.
Ralph insists, “We would be honored to have everyone that attends the White Eagle pow wow also attend the giveaway Sunday afternoon.”
Committee volunteer Scott Burke of Prairie Wind Arts in Adel has volunteered each year and looks forward to sharing the event with first-time attendants.
Scott recommends camping for the weekend to experience the full magnitude of the event. “You just have to go. It’s like nothing you’ve seen before. You just have to experience it for yourself!”
Ralph “White Eagle” Moisa III continues to teach us that only by example can we instill in our children the tolerance and acceptance they need to make the best choices for all.
The White Eagle Multicultural Pow Wow hopes to bring together families and friends from around the world to celebrate our differences and find laughter in our misconceptions.
Volunteers are still needed. To learn how you can become part of this one in a million event, please contact ntglaser2343@msn.com.

Adel Fareway Interview
The first Fareway Store opened in Boone, Iowa in 1938 with the simple purpose of providing good jobs, good food, and great service to happy customers. Over the past 74 years more than 100 stores across the Midwest have kept this idea alive.
And now, Adel is proud to become part of that history and the future it brings with it. This month DiscoverAdel spoke with the cheerful employees that are the backbone of this new addition to the community.
True to small town tradition, the local grocery store has always been a perfect fit to bolster local employment and community growth… Continue Reading
