In order to vote in the May 2, 2017 County-Wide Special Election, a voter must be registered.
The Election’s Office encourages voters to register before Friday, April 21, 2017 at 5 p.m. to expedite the voting process at the polling sites on Election Day.
The Auditor’s Office is open 8 am to 5 pm on April 21, 2017.
A voter can still register after the April 21 deadline, but more identification will be required. Voters who vote absentee at the Auditor’s Office after the April 21 deadline or those who plan to register on Election Day at their polling location will need to show proof of residency and proof of identity. (Examples are below)
Hard copy proof of residency (electronic copies are unacceptable) can be accomplished with:
- Property tax statement
- Utility bill
- Bank statement
- Other government document
Acceptable proofs of identification must contain a photo and include:
- An Iowa driver’s license
- US Military ID
- Out-of-state driver’s license
- Employer –issued ID
- Non-driver identification card
- Student ID form an Iowa HS or College
- US passport
All forms of Photo ID must be current, valid, and contain an expiration date or list “none” as the expiration date. Voters may cast an absentee ballot at the Dallas County Auditor’s Office during normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Note: Friday, April 14, 2017 County Offices will be closed.
