The First Christian Church will have a concert by "Higher Power" Sunday the 11th at the Adel Pavilion on 10th and Main St. They look forward to you being there.

Next to New Consignment Shop - Adel
Next 2 New - Adel Consignment ShopLocated between Patrick's Restaurant and Adel Tumbling is the Next 2 New Consignment Shop.

Owner Shannen Bargman opened the Next2New Consignment Shop in Adel this spring.

Originally from Dickens and Emmetsburg Iowa, she moved here with her two kids, Sadie a 10th grader and Cody a 7th grader.

She was doing commercial painting in Des Moines when the opportunity to open the shop came up.

Coming from a small town, where both she and her mother had worked in a consignment shop, she fell in love with Adel and it's great ambiance.

Shannen participated in her first Sweet Corn Festival in August. She and her family had a float in the parade and ran out of candy three quarters of the way through. She promises to have more next year!

Next 2 New - Adel Consignment Shop

Ever with a smile, Shannen gave me a tour of the shop.

The first thing you notice when you walk in is how clean and organized the shop is. Shannen prides herself on keeping it uncluttered and user friendly.

Hidden in the back corner is a great sitting area for kids and restless spouses. There's a big screen TV on the wall and Saturdays see a lot of football on the screen.

Next 2 New - Adel Consignment Shop

The sitting area. On this day, Owen, was enjoying the big screen.

Next 2 New - Adel Consignment Shop

Next 2 New also carries ADM wear, located at the front of the store.

The shop offers children's clothing size 5 and up, teens, ladies and men's casual clothing to shoes, boots, accessories, ADM wear, and today's fashions.

Shannen would like to expand the shop to include baby clothes and furniture in the future.

The store uses a tiered system for pricing. Tags show 75%, 50% off on the posted prices. The last month of an item is discounted to $1.00.

September Deals!

Teal tags will be $1.00 per item.
Yellow tags will be 50% off
Red tags will be 75% off

Next 2 New in Adel will begin accepting fall and winter consignments the 1st thru the 21st of each month through January, excluding all Saturdays.

All the money raised at the fundraiser goes toward helping scientists develop new medications to sustain Alex & Shade's quality life and more importantly, continue looking for the cure!

Alex, a 10th grader, & Shade, a 7th grader, in the ADM district, are both Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients. CF is a genetic illness affecting the mucus linings of the body. As a result of the linings being thick and sticky, every organ system in the body is affected.

Both Alex and Shade have an intense daily routine of respiratory therapy for a minimum of one hour per day, inhaled medications & oral medications (between 25 & 40 pills each on a 'healthy' day).

On "bad days" everything can easily double and other things like inhaled antibiotics are added. Alex has been in the hospital and on IV's at home a great deal this year. Both boys have had major sinus surgery.

It takes a lot of volunteers to make it all work- let us know if you can help by calling 993-7310 or michelle@michelleroling.com.

Egg Plant Twist

One of my favorite dishes is egg plant.

I grew up eating it fried like onion rings and in Parmesan.

In college I had it in "meatless" sandwiches, with a side of buffalo wings.

Not everyone in the household is a fan.

Ok, only two of us are, but this version has been making converts of the holdouts.

My daughter came across this recipe and sent it to me to try.

It's an asian twist that's easy to fix, good for you, and tastes excellent!

Ingredients:
1 t. Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
1 C. Chopped Red Onion
2 T. Minced Fresh Ginger
2 T. Fresh Minced Garlic
1 1/2 lbs. Unpeeled Eggplant cut into cubes.
8 T. Water
1/4 C. Low Sodium Soy Sauce
1 t. Oyster Sauce
1/4 t. Chili Garlic Sauce more or less to taste
2 t. Sesame Oil

Directions:
In a nonstick skillet over medium heat...

Add olive oil, onion, ginger and garlic until the onion beings to soften.

Add the eggplant and cook stirring often, until the eggplant is lightly browned and spot tender (8-10 min.).

Then add the water, soy sauce, oyster sauce, chili garlic sauce, sesame oil.

Cook stirring occasional for 10-12 min. or until the eggplant is very tender and the liquid is absorbed.

Remove from pan. Serve with Cous-Cous, Rice, or Noodles.

Makes 4, 1 cup servings.

If you skip the buffalo wings, it's about 140 calories per serving.

Enjoy!
