LSB Mortgage Adel, Iowa

In an era of bailouts and recession, the local bank has stood strong on the pillar of customer service. Lincoln Savings Bank has brought this same mentality to Adel with LSB Mortgage.

Tim Canney LSB Mortgage Adel, IowaThis month we spoke with VP of Mortgage Lending, Tim Canney, about the new business' small town charm.

For many who have been dealing with their mortgage lender recently, good customer service is an uncommon phrase.

Hold music, failing to sooth the nerves, now represents minutes of your time wasted. Luckily LSB Mortgage in Adel is different.

In the way that local, independant insurance agents can go above and beyond client expectations, LSB Mortgage answers to their patrons rather than their bottom line.

The small Adel office was formerly Gold Key Mortgage, then Network Funding until mid-November 2010. The Sub-Prime Lending bubble burst forced Federal regulation changes, making it difficult for mortgage brokers to do business as they have in the past.

Customers are divided by these new regulations. While they are pleased that the increased regulations are helping to protect against the instability within the mortgage industry of the past, the changes have made the process overwhelming and frustrating for the client.

"People don't buy a house everyday, and it is the biggest purchase many of us will make. Having real professional help is important."

That is when Lincoln Savings Bank began developing their own mortgage company, founded with the belief that mortgage professionals could make the loan process more efficient and less strenuous for their clients.

"The more complicated the mortgage process becomes, the more important it is to have a professional help you. We stay informed about new regulations and make it simple for our customers to understand."

LSB Mortgage, Adel Iowa

LSB Mortgage is FDIC insured, creating stability and credibility.
This also allows the Adel office to offer more mortgage products. The two man crew of Tim Canney and Tim Bohlen sit down with their clients face to face and ask the questions needed to find the right mortgage for the best rate.

Both Tim Canney and Bohlen are liscensed with NMLS, the Nationwide Mortgage Lisensing System.

"All loan approvals are done locally and all loans are processed and underwritten by our own in-house staff. We offer some of the most competitive interest rates in area and have one of the largest selections of loan programs in Iowa."

For instance, most online mortgage companies won't offer USDA Rural Development loans, an option perfectly suited for Central Iowa.

These government insured mortgages were designed to increase the population and strengthen the economy in rural America, requiring no money down, and boast 100% financing.

A common misconception is that Rural Development loans are only for farmers. In truth, almost any area outside a major metropolitan city will qualify.

Tim is excited to announce a new take on the monthly newsletter for their clients. Along with Scott Canney, an award-winning videographer and Adel native, the company will film short videos to be emailed each month.  Turning the back office into a green room, the three have begun filming and look forward to sending out their first edition.

Tim Canney LSB Mortgage Adel, Iowa

Another benefit of LSB Mortgage is establishing a relationship with your mortgage lender. Rather than calling an automated call center, or speaking with someone thousands of miles away, clients speak face to face with Tim, and may even run into him around town.

Tim and his wife Kristy have lived in Adel for 36 years, meeting when they were in 2nd grade. The couple is now celebrating 20 years together with daughters and ADM students Katie, Haley, and Sydney.

The ADM School Board President, intermural softball/ basketball/soccer coach, and regular attendant of New Hope Church has the opportunity to speak with people throughout the community about what matters most to them, not just his product line.

Tim is proud to call Adel home for both his family and businesses. Tim also operated Sport About for Kids, an online retailer of children's NFL, MLB and NASCAR items.

"I love Adel. It's still it's own town with its own identity. We have all the great things of a big city with all the charm a small town brings. I think we've landed in a good spot!"

John D. Gomke Charity
John D. Gomke Charity
FeatureOn December 3rd, 2009 John Donald Gomke was born. He passed away on January 6th, 2010 at 33 days.
John D. Gomke CharityHis parents, Steve and Jessica Gomke, have set up the John D. Gomke Charity in his honor to educate parents and the community about Small Child and Infant death.

This month we spoke with Jessica about the accomplishments of the charity and upcoming events.

In December, the John D. Gomke Charity donated two AED machines to the ADM School District.

Dallas County EMT Mike Thompson trained the staff to properly use the portable defibrillator with pads for both children and adults.

In addition to the AEDs, John's Charity will replace the pads as they expire or if they should be used in an emergency.

The latest news from the charity was the announcement of the 2nd Annual John D. Gomke Charity Golf Tournament June 18th at the River Valley Golf Course in Adel.

Last year's event took place on a beautiful summer day with over 152 golfers ready to enjoy a fun day of golf for a good cause.

This year looks to be another well attended event, with golfers signing up now to ensure their spot. The tournament will be in a 4-Man Best Shot format broken into two morning and afternoon flights.

Sponsors are starting to line up, donating prizes and cash for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place of each flight, Hole-in-One, Eagle, Birdie, and Par winners, and Culligan Water will once again be donating water for the event.

One generous company will be showing their support in a big way. A new addition this year will be the All Day Free Driving Range, for which the charity is currently seeking sponsorship.

John D. Gomke CharityNon-golfers are also encouraged to participate! Come out to watch the tournament, enjoy lunch from the grill, or buy a tee shirt to show your support of this great cause.

Now is the time to sign up as all tee shirt orders must be placed by May 27th.

Started in May 2010 by John's parents and godparents Josh & Shannon Benson and Mike Hiatt with a simple can drive, the John D. Gomke Charity raised over $11,000 in its first year.

"We have John's best interests at heart. We do the Charity for John, it is what he would want us to do.

Our board is made up of people who love him as much as we do"
said Jessica.

These funds are used solely for the charity which furthers awareness of proper Infant & Child CPR procedures by supplying free CPR Certification classes throughout Central Iowa.

"That's where we sugarcoat it. We need to be more blunt that Infant and Child death does happen. Everyone thinks, 'It will never happen to me,' and then it does."

Funds are also donated to the Mercy Foundation for materials to be used in creating keepsakes such as foot & hand ink prints, molds, and photographs.

The John D. Gomke Charity Board is busy at work planning an upcoming donation breakfast, and the 2nd Annual John's Baby Steps 5K Run/Walk to take place in October. Stay tuned to DiscoverAdel.com for upcoming announcements or visit the John D. Gomke website at www.johndgomkecharity.org.

The charity continues to accept can and bottle donations which can be dropped off at Wells Fargo Bank in Adel. Please call Jessica at (515) 314-9171 in advance to schedule your drop off.

My Recipe of the Month
DDiscover Chef
English Muffin Bread

Baking bread is a long standing tradition with my family.

My Gram baked her own bread her whole life. She'd send homemade bread or rolls home with my Mom and we'd eat it while it was still warm.

Now, my daughters carry on the tradition in their own way, providing us with aerodynamic rolls and non-Kosher Challah bread.

Not long ago, my daughters
got together with my mother to learn a few of her prized recipes.

These traditional recipes use all the great ingredients of a world unafraid of transfats, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Besides the rich Chicken Pot Pie and coveted Biscotti was one starchy favorite.

This English Muffin Bread is perfect for hearty French Toast, breakfast casseroles, and my favorite, a tablespoon, or two, of peanut butter.

The recipe yields 5-6 loaves of bread, perfect for sharing or freezing.

Ingredients:
3 T Yeast
12 C. Flour
1/2 C White Sugar
4 C. Milk, warm
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 C. Water, warm
1 tsp Salt
4T Dry Cornmeal
Shortening

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degree.

In a small bowl combine the warm Water and Yeast. Set aside.

Separate Flour into 2 large bowls.

Mix warm Milk, Sugar, Baking Soda, Yeast, and Salt together.

Add to the first bowl of flour and combine slightly.

Then add the remaining flour to the mix.

*Tip: Do not over work the dough, this is a very light bread. Mix only enough to combine the ingredients.

While the bread rests, grease 5-6 loaf pans with shortening.

Coat the pans with Cornmeal, shaking away any excess.

Divide the dough among the loaf pans and bake 2 at a time for 35 minutes.

Enjoy!
Terry's Travels
Terry Traveller
Each month, Terry journeys through our community enjoying the sights, sounds, deals, and meals that make Adel great!

This month, Terry visited the River Valley Golf Course.

I love to golf and in Adel there is no better spot than the River Valley Golf Course.

Most of my winter is spent counting down the days to the first blustery days of spring when I can finally hit the greens.

And in the middle of March, I was out there, a wide smile across my face, oblivious to the cold.

There are few simpler pleasures than walking the well maintained fairways as I take in the beauty of nature all around me.

When I bring my friends to River Valley for the first time they are surprised at the difficulty the public, central Iowa course offers.

River Valley Golf has it all, challenges around each rolling hill, great prices for seasonal & day passes, late evening discounts, and tournaments all season long.
