Lacey & Justin Reed - Marc Stephens Adel
| | Lacey & Justin Reed |
Located on Main just off the square is Marc Stephens salon. We got to sit with owners
Lacey and Justin Reed to talk about their business and the exciting changes that will take place this Spring.
Lacey and Justin graduated from Clarion-Goldfield High School together. Then their paths separated as they went to college.
After college Lacey joined Marc Stephens in Ames working with Marc.
Justin graduated with a Management Information Systems (MIS) degree. He worked for three years in Kansas City at Sprint. Eventually he moved back to Iowa and Lacey and Justin reconnected, married and now have two children.
As Marc's business grew it expanded to Adel in 2006 with Lacey opening and managing the Adel shop. In 2010 she and Justin, bought the Adel location.
Lacey manages and runs the shop while Justin, a business analyst with ITA Group in West Des Moines, handles the business side.
Marc Stephens Adel Salon Previously living in Urbandale and doing the daily commute, they purchased a home in Adel at the end of 2011.
When asked "Why Adel?", Lacey smiles and says "We love living in Adel, it's similar to the town we grew up in. This area offers lots of options and we registered our son in soccer knowing we would be living here." They both enjoy the customers and being involved in the community.
Jewelry from "Spoons Full of Sugar" by Kylee
Lacey attributes the salon's success to her philosphy of being happy first to make the customers happy on a one on one basis.
They're members of the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, participating in the Annual Holiday Business Open Houses. They also support the John D. Gomke Charity and various local events.
As if their lives aren't busy enough, they've recently added a jewelry line, "Spoons Full of Sugar" by Kylee, to the store with plans to offer manicure and pedicure services by April 1st if not sooner.

Ken Depue - Imagination Images of Iowa
|
As the owner of both Imagination Images of Iowa and Code Electric, Ken Depue is one of those fortunate people that does not one job he loves but two. While in high school at ADM he discovered photography. It made such an impact on him that he owned and operated Adel Photography in Adel. In 2002 he apprenticed with A&W Electric, discovering a second career that he enjoyed. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to eventually start Code Electric. Code Electric specializes in commercial and residential electrical work doing jobs of all sizes often taking him across the state. An advantage of traveling was all of the town squares he saw. While running the photography shop in Adel, Ken took a panoramic of the court house. He put together the equipment and software then climbed a ladder in the middle of the street to reproduce the famous panoramic taken by Fredrick J. Bandholtz (1877 to 1963) in the early 1900's. The perfect shot took four attempts at 50 frames a shoot and hours of software manipulation. Eventually he discovered a workflow that he could reproduce. This led to finding as many of the original courthouse panoramics as he could, thus Imagination Images of Iowa was born. Due to the photos large sizes, he often receives them folded, torn, and worn from storage. Ken scans the photos, repairs the damage in his software and then researches where the photo was originally taken. He then travels to the location to reproduce the shot. After a hundred years there are usually major changes to the areas he visits. Trees have grown up, buildings replaced or modified, and sometimes the original structures are completely gone due to tornado damage or housing projects. Once the perfect photo is obtained, he produces an image containing the original at the top and the current view on the bottom. Ken has collected a majority of Iowa's courthouse photos and has plans to complete the last of them in the next year or so. In his journey to preserve the past he records the GPS coordinates of the photo and copious notes so that a future photographer can do a third shot a hundred years from now. He often wonders who that will be. Ken's collection can be found and individual images purchased online at www.imaginationimagesofiowa.com. Each image has taken an average of 50 hours to complete. If you have an old panoramic, Ken invites you to contact him at 515-208-2415 Ken Depue Imagination Images of Iowa Phone: (515) 208-2415 Website: www.imaginationimagesofiowa.com

February is National Pet Dental Month
|
February is National Pet Dental Month
In support of National Dental Month, Cedar Creek Animal Clinic is offering a FREE Dental Exam during the month of February.
Pets can't brush their teeth, but just like people, dogs and cats are at risk for dental problems that can cause pain and serious health issues.
Dental care of dogs and cats is one of the most commonly overlooked areas of pet health care. In fact, two-thirds of pet owners do not provide the dental care that is recommended by their veterinarian. Dental disease can lead to more serious health problems including heart, lung, and kidney disease. It is essential to have an oral exam annually to ensure the overall health of your pet.
Did you know?
- Dental disease can lead to problems in the heart, liver, kidneys or other organs.
- Plaque is a colorless film containing large amounts of bacteria that builds up on your pet's teeth.
- Plaque can cause infection, destroying gums, bone, and other tissues that support the teeth.
- Your pet's mouth may develop small wounds that allow the bacteria to enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body.
- 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have dental disease by age 2.
- Dental disease is more common in older pets.
- Small dogs are more likely to have overcrowded or misaligned teeth that are difficult to keep clean, making them more prone to dental disease.
Schedule your pet's exam today at our Adel office by calling 515-993-3410.
In addition to a FREE exam, we are offering a discount on most dental products, including Greenies and CET products!
Your pet is counting on you for dental care to stay healthy and happy.

Recipe of the Month
| | Black Bean Chicken Soup
My daughter has been sending me "healthy" recipes.
I don't know if it's because she thinks I'm getting older or if it's because she is.
Fortunately they've all tasted pretty good.
So good in fact, I had to share.
Below is her latest recipe.
Ingredients: 2 15 oz. Cans of Black Beans Drained
1 14.5 oz Can of Diced Tomatoes in Juice
2 Cups Water 1 Cup Cooked Chicken
3/4 Cup Minced Celery
3/4 Cup Chopped Onions
1 Red Pepper
1 tsp. Minced Garlic
1 tsp. Ground Cumin
Black Pepper to taste
Red Pepper Flakes to taste.
Directions: 1. In a large pot, add water, one and a half cans of beans drained, and half of the tomatoes.
2. Let simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.
3. Then blend, I used a hand mixer. Blend until it is somewhat creamy, then back in the pot.
4. Add the rest of the ingredients and let it cook for 20-25 minutes or until the onion and celery are tender.
Serves 4
Enjoy! |
