Brick Street Updates

  • Residents and Downtown Businesses,

Now that the Street Project is practically complete (although not finalized by City Council) I thought it appropriate to take this time to thank everyone for their ongoing patience and support during the time of construction and provide a final update on closure to the many final items remaining.

The final punch list is being addressed by the contractor and City staff has inspected the project area several times in the past two weeks. We have contacted many of you regarding final issues with your building or areas effecting your business and customers. Those issues are being addressed if they have not already been completed. The contractor is hopeful that the final items will be completed in the next few days.

If you have final detail items to bring to our attention and you believe we are not already aware of them, give me a call and we will come out to note the issue. Once the punch list is complete there will be some items that will be added to the “long term” maintenance list. As this project has a four year maintenance bond with the contractor, there may be items that we will wait to see how they behave over a longer period before the final decision to remove and replace the area. For example, a sidewalk crack may not be severe enough to replace now, but as we watch it over the next few years we would still have the ability to make the repairs if the damage becomes more severe.

On a final note, now that the permanent traffic control signs and parking designations are installed, the Adel Police Department is working with the business community to “re-implement” parking and traffic control. There are no notable changes to traffic or parking regulations so it will be an adjustment for all of us to “get back to normal”. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Again, thank you for your support and cooperation during this project. It has been a pleasure to serve the community and I believe the Downtown Street Project will help make Adel a better place. I especially want to thank all of you that provided input during the planning stages in the years leading up to construction and to those that continued to provide input to staff and council during the construction phases. Your passion for Adel is evident and appreciated.

    Chad
