P.E.O. News - March 2010

logo-peo1P.E.O. Chapter DR met Tuesday, March 2, at the Adel Public Library.

Twenty members enjoyed a program on Painted Eggs presented by Betty Mathers.

Betty, a very talented artist, explained the history of egg art and the process involved in painting eggs. There are many different techniques used in this ancient craft and design inspiration and materials comes from a wide variety of sources.

Betty demonstrated one phase of the craft showing how she divides the egg into sections using a pencil then uses an electric pen called a "kistka" to draw over the lines with Beeswax creating her design.

The color process is next. Then the Beeswax is removed revealing an absolute beautiful piece of art. The last step is emptying the egg by drilling a small hole in the bottom and blowing out the inside then rinsing with clean water.

This last step is the hard part as 1 to 3 hours of art work is finished but the weight of the egg is needed so that the egg will sink into the dye bath.

This outstanding program was enjoyed by all.
