An Old Scandinavian Folk Story
Many years ago, when we could still see the magical spirits among us, an old woman lived in a cabin at the edge of the woods.
She loved flowers of all kinds but tulips were her favorites. Every fall she planted baskets of bulbs, at least one of every color. Pink and red, yellow and lilac, white and orange, striped and fringed.
She knew the swaying blooms made perfect cradles and each of the multihued fairy mothers would find one to perfectly match her newborn.
Sadly the old woman died one winter and her cabin was taken over by a dreadful man. He cared little for flowers and plowed under all that was delicate and planted the most ordinary of green herbs.
When the fairies learned the next spring of the loss of their dear friend and her protective gardens they unhappily fluttered off in search of a new nursery for their babies.
But a few returned in the night, angrily gnawed the edges and spat on every leaf of the old man's herbs. And that is why we now have... parsley!
