Raccoon River Valley Trail Association Banquet and Auction
Raccoon Valley Trail Association Announces 2nd Annual Membership Banquet and Fundraising Auction
Tickets are now available for the 2nd Annual Raccoon Valley Trail Association Membership Banquet and Fundraising Auction scheduled for Saturday, February 21 at Lake Panorama National Resort Golf Course and Conference Center in Panora. RRVTA is excited about the guest speaker, Brian Duffy, cartoonist and cyclist. Many of you will recognize Duffy as the former Des Moines Register editorial cartoonist, and many will know Duffy for his support of cycling. He has been a host of RAGBRAI for the past 10 years. He will share stories about cartooning and cycling. You won’t want to miss it!
Tickets are available at Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce. Membership forms and 2009 trail pass applications are also available at the chamber office.
The banquent will also preview a new, weekend-long ride on the Raccoon River Valley Trail that will be sponsored by the Des Moines Cycle Club. Appropriately called, “Tour the Raccoon” this weekend ride, open to all cyclists, will take riders from Des Moines to Jefferson for an overnight stay the weekend of June 13-14. Jefferson’s 30th annual Bell Tower Festival – one of Iowa’s best small town celebrations – is going on that same weekend so there will be lots of special food, activities and entertainment. It’s sure to be a big hit with many trail association members who are looking for a fun weekend getaway on the trail. Registration forms will be available at the banquet.
And finally, we’ll have our fundraising silent and live auctions. Last year we raised over $9,000. We hope this year is equally successful. Funds raised at our auction help with our yearly operating expenses; they leverage funds for matching grant opportunities; they enable us to promote the trail in innovative ways, and they help us pay for membership events throughout the year.
Check out the RRVT website for a full story on the banquet. We hope you and your biking friends will join us for a night of fun – surrounded by those who love what you do – cycling on the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
