29th Annual Sweet Corn Festival - August 9, 2008

Adel Sweet Corn FestivalThis year's festival features over 7 ton of delicious Deardorff sweet corn grown locally in the Adel area and provided to festival goers free of charge as long as supplies last. Seven ton of corn amounts to approximately 15,000 ears!

Corn Shucking -  Friday, Aug. 8 - 6PM - 10th & Court in downtown Adel

Even though the festival itself is on Saturday August 9,  the event starts off on Friday evening with the annual corn shucking effort by over 200 volunteers. The corn shucking is as much a tradition of the festival as the Saturday events. KIOA radio, 93.3FM out of Des Moines will be broadcasting live from the corn shucking and will be offering fun contests throughout the entire festival on Friday evening and Saturday. The shucking process begins at 6PM at 10th & Court in downtown Adel.

Featuring the largest parade in Dallas County

The parade begins at 9AM proceeding from the west edge of Adel down Main Street. Anyone interested in participating in the parade may call the Adel chamber of commerce for additional information at 515-993-5472 or access information on the chamber website: partners.adeliowa.org.

Over 75 vendors will be available at the Sweet Corn Festival offering a large variety of food to complement the free sweet corn and various arts/crafts items for sale.

Live music and entertainment is a long standing tradition at the Sweet Corn Festival and 2008 is no exception. The entertainment schedule includes: Main Stage Entertainment at the Adel Community Stage and Pavilion at 10th & Main:

On-street parking is available surrounding the area of the Festival. We also offer shuttle service from the ADM High School parking lot (south of Adel on Highway 169) to the Festival.
